Hello world. It has been way too long! These last few months have been a blur. Both of my jobs have decided to double my hours which is super, but 50 hours or so a week can kinda wear you down! So my life this past month has been all work or me on the road catching some gigs. August was the month for shows! I've been to 6 gigs in 3 weeks and it's been amazing! Someday I'll catch my breath, but for now it's time to run with life!
Right now I'm listening to Katatonia, I hope to catch them next week in Chicago. Very unique sound. Very smooth melodic vocals, almost like a metal lullaby. It's my birthday next week and I can't think of a better way to celebrate than to rocking out with some Swedes. So what do I want for my birthday you ask? Oh nothing big, just my own place, a bike, and a million dollars. Thanks. I'll accept cash. So it's nice to be back here at good 'ol Panera sipping some coffee, catching up on some music news, and just relax. Having days off is so rare for me now that I appreciate time in a whole new way.
I won't go into much detail of the many epic gigs I've been to over the last couple of weeks, but here are some snaps! They alone express a lot of the awesomeness I've experienced lately!
| Taking Dawn! One of the best up and coming rock bands out there! Saw them at the Bottom Lounge in Chicago. I've seen them 3 times and they bring it every time. Four passionate, funny, and sweet guys make up this band hailing from Las Vegas. With classic sounds, catchy lyrics, and sweet riffs I'm a huge fan! |
| Alex of Taking Dawn singing and playing at the same time! Love! |
| VOLBEAT! I saw my boys three glorious days in a row and each show was magical. I stood front row, sang every song, and got to hang out with each of these Danish rock stars till the wee hours of the morning! I love following bands and having the privilege of knowing these guys is truly amazing. |
| Michael owning his solo. His tattoos are memorizing. This man writes some intense poetry and has such a gentle demeanor. I admire his talent, enjoy his music and his company. Brilliant man. |
| Thomas and Anders doing what they do best. Took this shot at the show in Grand Rapids. Not crazy about the venue, but decent enough sound to get lost in the rock 'n roll! |
| This is Jon. Don't be deceived. Though having the reputation of the quite serious drummer type it is most false. One of the best parts of these shows was getting to know him, because he's hilarious! And this is his happy face! |
| Ooooooh Anders. Great bassist. Great guy. 'Nough said. |
| Apocalyptica! I caught them last week in Chicago, seeing them at HOB was really special. Such a great stage. They rocked hard as always and we had a really fun time at the after party. They bring such life and beauty to the stage. Playing such a variety that it sweeps you through 70 minutes feeling like seconds. I felt breathless afterward from such a good metal high! FYI, Eicca is beautiful. |
| Paavo! So entertaining to watch! Full of energy on stage, and just plan full of it off stage! Such a sweet flirt. Really enjoyed getting to know him and the other boys in Apocalyptica. He's taught me all the important phrases in Finnish ;) |
| Perttu plays so sweetly. He nearly floats on stage, moving angelically, and brings soul to the stage. |
| Mikko! Lovely drummer! Fun to have a chat with and really crazy on stage. He brings such a special element to the band. |
| Love. |
| More love. |
| Their backdrop was so beautiful. Everything they present to the world carries such elegant and magical aesthetics. So good to see these boys again! |
| Just Mikko and I chillin at the after party..... |
| Loveliest. |
| This is Dir En Grey. They co-headlined with Apocalytica at HOB. They are a crazy Japanese metal band. I have never been in such a crazy pit before. I wish I could have enjoyed their unique sounds, but was fighting for my life. But it was fun :) |
| Dommin! I caught these guys before with HIM in April and didn't care for them, but now I'm a big fan! They opened for Volbeat and I liked them more and more with each show. I caught 3 gigs and was impressed by their playing and showmanship. They brought heart and a unique sound to the stage and after getting their album I can't stop listening to it! Really nice fellas :) | | | |

I have a lot more, but I won't keep boring you with my flattering rants. Another gig that I don't have any pictures from is Soilwork, who I caught again in Kentucky at the Headliner's Music Hall. Cool venue! Kentucky gots some sounds yo! I really went to see
Death Angel again because they freaking rage out on that stage. It's good for the soul! Such a good show! Even Swashbuckle has a big place in my heart. As for the other two bands who played that night aren't really worth mentioning again, in fact, I didn't even watch Soilwork, I went and chilled on the air conditioned tour bus till their set was done. Haha, anyways!
Like I've said, I've been a bit busy! Fall is just around the corner and I'm so excited. Bring on the scarfs, pumpkin spice lattes, and lovely Autumn colors ! I adore Fall, the crisp feel in the air is so relaxing and hopeful. Enjoy this Labor Day dear people, reflect and relax for me!
