It has been far too long my friends. My absence from this blog really reflects how deprived I've been. I never get around to scooping out the little pleasures I take in life anymore. It has been unfortunate since my heart gets rather stir crazy when I'm not able to express myself in such ways as writing nonsense on a pointless blog. Yet. Do not fret, because I am starting a new chapter here in England and I really hope to breath a little deeper now. I want to slow down, look around, and take in the extraordinary life God has given me here. It has become a blur and to see clearly again is much needed.
So bear with me folks. I going to be a bit of a negative Nancy and rant rather ugly like about this country I currently reside in. So basically England is funny. Many consider the US and England to be similar, but this is false. I come from the Midwest. Oh how I am proud of the direct, friendly, and casual demeanor the bread basket of America has. Some may call us quaint, but I call it the best. Of course I'm biased, but as a Midwesterner, England is everything opposite of the best.
Great Britain is not a typical cold culture country. They are reserved and conservative, but unlike most nations, when you gain their trust and build a friendship the coldness still lingers. I see the best of "friends" here only talk about the weather and still just spill pleasantries over each other. Where's the substance? The honesty? In my opinion the most important thing here is keeping face. Manners and etiquette are more important than friendly honesty. This is not a bad thing. I do not think they are in the wrong, but it's just the opposite and where I come from and it makes me a bit sad to see such closed off people. They are caring and I do not doubt their goodness, but the this whole idea of manners first I will never understand. Regardless, living here in England is educating and humbling. It's been four months, two to go, and then let the next adventure begin!I've had to wear my big girl pants a lot since I've been here. Sometimes they're not that comfortable, but having responsibility doesn't mean all fun and games. To coincide with my entertaining yet stressful life I've turned to…you guessed it! Music. I've been in this funk lately where I only want something hard, fast, and basically something that feels like your getting punched in the face. Metalcore is just that. I can't stop listening to the incredible bands As I Lay Dying, War of Ages, and Silent Citizen. Each one is charismatic and harsh. Offering substance with their heavy sound and epic lyrics. I've really grown to love this harder stuff and when I need to escape these guys can pound out the frustrations I carry almost instantly. Cheers to metalcore for keeping me sane!
